Opportunities to collaborate on research and commercialization with Mitsui Chemicals in 2024

In 2024, Mitsui Chemicals R&D (chemical corporation in Japan) continues to cooperate with KisStartup to organize a series of programs Mitsui Chemicals Open Innovation Vietnam 2024. Specifically, including the following 02 main programs:

A. Mitsui Chemicals R&D Collaboration Award

Mitsui Chemicals R&D Collaboration Award is an award initiated by Mitsui Chemicals R&D to search for potential commercialization projects to cooperate and develop solutions with high commercialization potential in Vietnam, ASEAN, and Southeast Asia markets. Japan and worldwide.

Mitsui Chemicals R&D Collaboration 2024 awards include:

  • 01 first prize worth 2000 USD,
  • 01 second prize worth 1000 USD,
  • 03 third prizes worth 500 USD

will be awarded to projects with the most potential commercialization technology in accordance with Mitsui Chemicals' criteria.

Participants: All early-stage research projects from Vietnamese Universities, Research Institutes, Science and Technology Enterprises, and Independent Researchers can apply to participate in the award.

Field: Research projects include but are not limited to one of the following fields:

1. Raw materials to replace fossil fuels:

  • Biomass
  • Biogas 
  • Cellulose
  • Algae
  • Polyol compounds

2. Plastic recycling products/technology

  • Recycling technology: Mechanical recycling, Chemical recycling
  • Upcycling products/technology: Mechanical upcycling, Chemical upcycling
  • Monolayer packaging
  • Recycled plastic materials (Material to strengthen PCR)

3. Sustainable solutions:

  • Carbon capture, utilization, and storage solutions (CCUS)
  • Membrane Technology: Membrane technology for carbon dioxide gas, Membrane technology for hydrogen gas
  • Water purification
  • Air purification
  • Perovskite Solar Cells (Perovskite Solar Cells)

4. Agrochemical products:

  • Biocontrol agriculture agents
  • Bio-stimulants

5. Nutrition:

  • Functional foods
  • Protein substitutes (Protein substitutes)
  • Beneficial bacteria
  • Cultured meat technology
  • Micro-carriers in cell cultured

(Note: If teachers or students have more than 1 project suitable for the program and wish to participate in receiving the award, please register separately for each project. Please do not combine projects in a registration form. Registration forms that do not comply with regulations may not be eligible for review).

B. Reverse Pitch Program:

To create conditions for scientists and businesses to expand cooperation and research activities, the Reverse Pitch program opens a new approach by sharing the rights to use Mitsui Chemicals' multidisciplinary inventions for development. project projects and refine new ideas. Not stopping there, potential new projects will have the opportunity to cooperate with Mitsui Chemicals to continue developing in the next stages.

The program is expected to take place in August 2024.

Kick-off day: KisStartup and Mitsui Chemicals

 

On April 18th 2023, KisStartup and Mitsui Chemicals R&D officially launched the "Mitsui Chemicals R&D Collaboration Reward" project. The project aims to find research results from universities, research institutes from private companies, and enterprises in Vietnam to cooperate with Mitsui and promote commercialization.

In addition, KisStartup also shared some difficulties, opportunities, and the current situation in the Vietnamese ecosystem. We discussed the project's goals, directions, and plans together, and planned for the next steps.

Below are the fields that Mitsui Chemicals R&D is interested in:

Area 1: Medical devices

- In vitro diagnostic devices

- The integration of medical devices with Robot/Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions enables the provision of advanced medical care, including the analysis of medical images and improved diagnoses.

-The use of Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) technologies provides support for surgical training

Area 2: Agrochemical

-Biocontrol agricultural agents derived from fungi and bacteria are an effective means of controlling pests and insect disease vectors in agriculture.

-Herb tech

Area 3: Nutrition

-Functional food, protein substitutes, and probiotics for humans and animals

-Cultured meat technology, including the use of micro-carriers in cell culture

Area 4: Basic & Green Materials (Carbon Neutral)

-Green materials/ technologies such as biomass, biogas, cellulose, algae that can be a renewable fuel source.

-Sustainable solutions such as membrane technology for CO2, H2 production or water purification
