Does Your Business Have Data, But Is That Data Actually Helping You Make Decisions?
Through its work with numerous small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), KisOperation has observed that very few businesses actually lack data. Sales figures are stored in Excel spreadsheets, inventory records are kept in separate files or inventory management software, customer information is recorded in CRMs, employees’ phones or Zalo accounts, while financial figures are often only available after the accounting department closes the books at the end of each month.
Each data source has its own value. The challenge arises when managers need answers to everyday operational questions:
- Which products need to be restocked this week?
- Which customers are behind on payments, and how much working capital is tied up in outstanding receivables?
- Why did sales increase last month while profit margins declined?
Finding these answers requires employees to open multiple files, copy figures, cross-check information and compile reports. By the time the reports are ready, decisions may already have been made based on experience and intuition.
The Problem Is Not the Amount of Data
Having data and being able to make effective use of it are two different things. To unlock the value of data, businesses need to clarify three key points: which information needs to be connected, which problems should be prioritized, and which metrics should be used to measure improvement.
AI can provide significant support, but it can only deliver meaningful results when these three elements are clearly defined.
A Roadmap, One Solid Step at a Time
KisOperation works alongside businesses through a consistent roadmap, in which each step builds the foundation for the next:
1. Assess the starting point. The KARI™ assessment framework evaluates five dimensions: data, processes, technology and AI, knowledge, and operations.
2. Build a data foundation. Clean, standardize and connect data to support key business decisions, then bring it together in management dashboards.
3. Operate on a shared platform. Bring sales, purchasing, inventory and approval processes together, with all departments working from a single source of data.
4. Apply AI where data is ready. Introduce AI solutions in areas where the data foundation is sufficiently prepared, such as internal knowledge assistants or customer advisory assistants.
5. Continuously identify bottlenecks, measure performance and make adjustments.
In practice, very few businesses need to implement all five steps at once. What matters most is choosing the right place to start.
60-Minute Workshop: Identify Your First Operational Improvement
This is also the objective of the workshop “From Excel to AI: Find Your First Operational Quick Win”, organized by KisOperation.
Through a real-world business scenario and guided exercises, participants will identify an operational issue worth prioritizing, determine the data needed to address it, and develop a 30-day pilot framework with specific measurement criteria tailored to their own business.
This workshop is not a programming training session or a product presentation. Businesses do not need to replace or change their existing systems.
Workshop: From Excel to AI: Find Your First Operational Quick Win
- Time: November 2026. The specific schedule will be announced by KisOperation in upcoming posts.
- Format: Online, 60 minutes, conducted in English.
